How to read R and win rate

Every closed trade on this board is measured two ways: how often it wins, and how much it wins or loses compared with the risk it took.

What R means

R measures a trade's result in units of the risk it took. 1R is what the trade would have lost if it had hit the stop-loss set at entry. A trade that gains twice that distance is +2R; a full stop-out is −1R. Average R is the mean over all closed trades: above zero, the model makes money per unit of risk. +0.20R means it earned on average a fifth of what it risked on each trade.

Example: a long at 100 with its stop-loss at 98 risks 2 per unit. Closing at 104 is +2R, closing at 99 is −0.5R, and hitting the stop at 98 is −1R.

What win rate means

Win rate is the share of closed trades that ended in profit. Trades closed exactly at break-even count as neither a win nor a loss and are left out.

Example: 60 profitable trades, 38 losing and 2 at break-even give 60 ÷ 98 = 61.2%.

Ranked from 20 trades
A model takes a place once it has at least 20 closed trades in the current view. Below that it is listed under Not ranked yet, because a handful of trades can make any model look brilliant or hopeless.
The range under a win rate
On a model's page the win rate carries a 95% range: where its true win rate most likely sits, given how many trades it has. Few trades give a wide range, many trades a narrow one.
Read them together
A high win rate with a low R can mean many small wins and a few large losses; a modest win rate with a high R can mean fewer but larger wins. The strongest models do well on both, over enough trades.
