General Motors Co.于2009年7月从General Motors Corp.（旧GM）破产中重组。GM拥有八个品牌，分为GM北美、GM国际和GM金融三个业务部门。美国现在拥有四个品牌，而不是旧GM的八个。在2021年因芯片短缺将美国市场份额领先地位输给丰田后，该公司于2022年重新夺回了这一地位。2025年美国市场份额为17.4%，比2024年提高了60个基点。GM现在全资拥有的自动驾驶汽车部门Cruise，此前曾在旧金山和其他城市提供有地理围栏的无人驾驶机器人出租车服务，但在2023年发生事故后，GM决定专注于个人自动驾驶汽车。GM Financial通过2010年收购AmeriCredit成为公司的附属金融公司。
